On 6th October 2021, MGMDCH held the inauguration of ARTVILLE a first of its kind dental college art club. This initiative was taken by our Dean Dr Srivalli Natarajan who was present during the inauguration along with our vice dean Dr Jyoti Nadgere, head of departments, teachers, students and our chief guests Dr Vaishali Das who is the founder of ArtOdontics & Dr Ketan Naik who is an artist, sculptor and alumnus or MGMDCH. The inauguration, hosted by Creative committee head Dr Ankita Deshmukh and creative heads Saranga Mahajan and Apurva kurhade was followed by a skit on Gandhian philosophies and an art exhibition organised at the 1st floor common room from 6th to 8th October

A lecture on Anti ragging lecture was conducted by Senior police inspector, Kamothe police station - Mrs Smita Jadhav The lecture was followed up with Student Incharge Dr Sarika Shetty and Cultural In-charge Dr Bharat Gupta addressing the students. The program concluded with General Secretary of Student Council - Ms Karishma Jadhav introducing the Student council and its activities to the students
THE RESIDENTIAL CAMP ORGANIZED BY NSS TO SHANTIVAN NERE COMPRISED OF 26 STUDENTS, 9 INTERNS AND 4 STAFF MEMBERS.
STARTING WITH THE INAUGURATION OF THE CAMP WE HAD AN INTRODUCTORY SESSION WITH THE CHILDREN OF SCHOOL. THE NSS TEAM WENT INTO THE VILLAGE, AND DID A DENTAL SURVEY FOR 400 RESIDENTS OF VAKADI VILLAGE, INTERNS HAD AN OPD OF 394 CHILDREN IN THE TRIBAL SCHOOL, DID FLUORIDE APPLICATION FOR 138 CHILDREN AND ART WITH 179 CHILDREN.
APART FROM DENTAL AWARENESS AND CHECKUP, MANY EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES WERE PLANNED FOR THE CHILDREN WHICH INCLUDED DISCUSSION ABOUT CURRENT AFFAIRS, PLAYING VARIOUS GAMES. ALSO ENTERTAINMENT PROGRAM INCLUDED EVENTS SUCH AS LECTURE ON SPIRITUALITY , ZUMBA DANCE AND ALSO A TREK ACTIVITY TO KARNALA BIRD SANCTUARY UNDER THE GUIDANCE OF TEAM CAMPKRAFT. SHRAMADAAN ACTIVITY AS AN INITIATIVE FROM NSS INVOLVED THE REPAIR OF THE LEAKING DAM, WHICH PROVIDE SOLUTION FOR THE WATER IRREGULARITIES PEOPLE FACE IN THAT LOCALITY.
ENDING OUR CAMP WITH THE CLOSING CEREMONY , WE EXPRESSED OUR GRATITUDE TOWARDS THE SARPANCH AND EVERYONE, WHOSE SUPPORT MADE OUR CAMP A SUCCESSFUL EVENT.
AN INSPIRED IDEA BY THE DEAN WAS SUCCESSFULLY CARRIED OUT BY THE STUDENTS THROUGH A RALLY ORGANIZED JUST BEFORE DIWALI TO URGE PEOPLE TO CURB THE USE OF CRACKERS THIS YEAR. IT WAS A HUMBLE EFFORT BY THE STAFF AND STUDENTS OF MGM TO REDUCE POLLUTION OF THE ENVIRONMENT THIS YEAR.
PROMOTING NARENDRA MODI’S IDEOLOGY OF SWACCH BHARAT THE STAFF AND STUDENTS OF MGM CARRIED OUT A SMALL EVENT IN WHICH WE CLEANED UP THE AREA OUTSIDE OUR COLLEGE. THE ENTIRE AREA WAS CLEANED UP BY US WITH GREAT ENTHUSIASM.
DR SANDESH MAYEKAR HELD AN ANTIRAGGING SESSION FOR FIRST YEAR STUDENTS THIS YEAR. IT WAS A GREAT INTERACTIVE SESSION AND REALLY INSPIATIONAL TO THE YOUNG MINDS OF THE STUDENTS TAKING BABY STEPS INTO DENTISRY.

THIS WAS THE WHOLE DAY PROGRAM WHICH INCLUDED DIFFERENT SESSIONS. BASICALLY MOTO BEHIND CONDUCTING THIS PROGRAM WAS INTENTIONAL INSTILLATION OF TOBACCO CESSATION COUNCELLING AMONG UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS,SO THAT THEY ARE ELIGIBLE TO PROVIDE THEIR PARTICIPATION TOWARDS TOBACCO CESSATION .
THIS WAS CONDUCTED IN DIFFERENT SESSIONS ON THE SAME DAY WHICH INVOLVED INTERACTION OF STUDENTS WITH COUNCELLORS ABOUT VARIOUS TOBACCO PRODUCTS,DIFFERENT WAYS IN WHICH THEY ARE BEING MARKETED AND SOLD,ITS ADVERSE EFFECTS ON AN INDIVIDUAL’S HEALTH.NEXT SESSION INCLUDED DIFFERENT MOTIVATION FACTORS TO BE TAKEN UNDER CONSIDERATION WHICH MIGHT HELP PEOPLE TO START AVOIDING THEIR HABITS, HENCE AS A HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS, STUDENTS CAN ADVICE THEIR PATIENTS AND RELATIVES ABOUT TOBACCO CESSATION AS AND WHEN NEEDED.THE PROGRAM STILL INCLUDES TWO SESSIONS WHICH WILL BE HELD FUTHER IN THE DURATION OF SIX MONTHS. STUDENTS ARE BEING PROVIDED WITH THE PARTICIPATION CERTIFICATE FORATTENDING THE LIFE FIRST PROGRAM.

ON THIS DAY THE STUDENTS AND STAFF TOOK A PLEDGE OF UNITY AND WERE INSPIRED TO PROVIDE AN OPPORTUNITY TO RE-AFFIR THE INHERENT STRENGTH AND RESILIENCE OF OUR NATION TO WITHSTAND THE ACUAL AND POTENTIAL THREATS TO THE UNITY, INTEGRITY AND SECURITY OF THE COUNTRY.
A SEMINAR WAS CONDUCTED ON 7TH SEPTEMBER 2017, FOR THE ALL THE NEW INTERNS OF MGM DENTAL COLLEGE TO LEARN ABOUT THE VARIOUS INVESTMENT OPTIONS AVAILABLE SO THAT THEY WOULD LEARN WAYS TO INVEST THEIR MONEY IN A PROFITABLE WAY.
THE SESSION BEGAN WITH THE INTRODUCTION OF THE TWO GUEST LECTURERS WHO CAME FROM THE CONSUMER GUIDANCE SOCIETY. THE FIRST LECTURER SPOKE ABOUT THE HISTORY OF THE CONSUMER PROTECTION ACT AND ALSO THE VARIOUS NEW ACTS FORMED FOR THE BENEFITS OF THE CONSUMERS. HE ALSO ENLIGHTENED THE STUDENTS AS TO HOW SAFE AND ETHICAL PRACTICE IS A MUST IN TODAY’S WORLD AS MORE AND MORE PEOPLE ARE GETTING AWARE OF THEIR RIGHTS AND THE FACILITIES BEING PROVIDED TO THEM.
THE NEXT SPEAKER SPOKE SOLELY ABOUT INVESTMENTS. HE INTRODUCED THE DENTIST TO THE WORLD OF STOCK MARKET AND EVERYBODY WAS IN AWE OF WHAT IT WAS CAPABLE OF DOING !! THE VARIOUS STORIES TOLD BY HIM INSPIRED THE STUDENTS TO INVEST IN THE SHARE WORLD AT THE SAME TIME HE ALSO SPREAD A WORD OF CAUTION AS TO HOW ONE WRONG DECISION CAN LEAD TO A LOT OF DAMAGE.
THE SESSION ENDED WITH DR.BHARAT GUPTA SHARING ONE OF HIS EXPERIENCES IN THE SHARE MARKET WORLD AND ENCOURAGED THE STUDENTS TO EXPLORE IT TOO. THE SESSION ENDED BY DR.VAIBHAV THAKKAR GIVING A VOTE OF THANKS TO THE SPEAKERS AND FELICITATING THEM.

NO TOBACCO INITIATIVE
As part of the initiative FOR training Session for Doctors to help Patients for Tobacco Cessation, MGM Dental College partnered with an NGO LIFE FIRST to conduct a LEVEL 1 Training for all students and faculty on the 11th of March.
The training modules are developed in collaboration with the Dana Farber / Harvard Cancer Centre, Boston, USA and the training's were conducted by Life First Tobacco Treatment Specialists trained and certified by the Mayo Clinic Nicotine Dependence Centre, Rochester, USA.
The level 1 training was a full day programme and was an educational session on basic (yet essential) topics such as prevalence of tobacco use in India, various products being used and commonly used brands. Information was provided on various health effects of tobacco and the contents of its products. Participants were sensitized about tobacco cessation by providing them with the basic knowledge on dependence, benefits of quitting and commonly used models of cessation. This training session included role-plays for participants to give them hands-on experience of dealing with situations.
Our institution was visited by a team from the armed forces medical services branch on 30th July 2015. The visit was for the purpose of placing MGM dental college on the panel for providing services to armed forces veterans under the ECHS scheme.
The MGM Dental college is the only dental college in the country to have a unique dedicated portal called "Oreon". This is an integrated system wherein academic/ administrative information can be disseminated to staff, students as well as students parents in real time. It also provides facilities for e-learning for students even after college hours.
In order to provide an orientation to III BDS students on their entry to clinical dentistry, a unique white coat ceremony was organized wherein aprons were provided to students by senior faculty, the students were educates on their responsibilities and duties expected of them as clinicians.
In keeping with the commendable initiative of the government to promote yoga among the masses, as well as in observance of the national yoga day, a yoga camp was organized for staff and students on 26 June 2015. The camp provided a basic introduction introduction to yoga as well guidance in its performance.
The international No Tobacco day 2015 was observed by MGM dental college on 31st May 2015 by the organization of a public performance which included a rally, flash mob and a skit so as to educate the public on the perils of tobacco abuse.
On the occasion of international women`s day on the 9th of March 2015, the MGM Dental College organized a felicitation ceremony for the unsung heroes of the institution, the housekeeping staff. The housekeeping staff toil tirelessly behind the scenes in order to maintain the upkeep and cleanliness of the college, which is a prerequisite for any place of learning leave alone a hospital. In recognition of their praiseworthy contribution, a felicitation ceremony was held where all the housekeeping staff received gift hampers from senior academic staff, followed by lunch.
MGM Dental College observed 31st October as "Rashtriya Ekta Diwas" (National Unity Day) in commemoration of the birth anniversary of the iron man of India Sardar Vallabhai Patel. The program included, recognition of Sardar Patels contribution in shaping modern India, and celebrating the uniqueness of India's multitude of religions, ethnicity and cultures. The program concluded by administration of a pledge to all staff and students to honor and maintain the unity and integrity of the country.
An orientation program was organized on 29th of September 2014 for students of 1st BDS and their parents. This was to provide an overview of the academic program and also to acquaint students with the college and ease their transition into professional level of education.
To commemorate world heart day on 26th September, MGM Dental college participated in a walkathon organized by MGM Hospital Vashi, in association with Times of India. This was the 3rd consecutive year such an event has been organized and aimed at educating the public about the importance of maintaining cardiac health in today's era of lifestyle diseases.
With a heavy heart, the MGM Dental College bid adieu to one of the academic pillars of the institution, Dr. Anil Kumar Barua. An eminent doyen from the field of prosthodontics, Dr. Barua retired after 50 years of teaching. Dr. Barua will always be remembered for his sharp wit, his artistic pursuits, broad range of interests in fields other than dentistry, and his passion for imparting knowledge to students and colleagues.
Teachers day was celebrated on 5th September 2014, the birthday of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. The events included various contests in which departments competed against each other. The day provided a break from the usual rigor and discipline of academic life for students and staff, and provided a forum for staff to exhibit talents which were hitherto unknown.
In commemoration of the birth anniversary of late Dr. G.B.Shankwalkar, the department of Periodontology, Mahatma Gandhi Missions Dental College and Hospital, Navi Mumbai as its annual tradition organized a program on campus to celebrate the Oral Hygiene Day.
MGM Dental college & Hospital received the "Best Dental College" in Mumbai award at a recently concluded function in Delhi on the 15th of June 2014. This award was instituted as part of the national dental excellence awards by "Prime Time" a market survey agency.
The award was based on criteria evaluated by a market survey and credentials obtained from our website. The award provides recognition to the teaching as well as student and patient management protocols in place at MGM Dental College and Hospital.
Every year 31st May is celebrated as World No Tobacco Day. It is intended to encourage a 24 hour period of abstinence from all forms of tobacco consumption across the globe.
Initiated by Dr. Sabita Ram, MGM Dental College & Hospital has been organizing an anti-tobacco drive since last 2 years. In continuation this year, No Tobacco Day was organized in association with Indian Dental Association & Colgate at Inorbit Mall (Vashi) where several activities like free oral health checkup for any carious or precancerous lesions, a skit performance to illustrate the harmful effects of tobacco, a flash mob & a drawing competition were conducted.
The importance of this event was showcased by our enthusiastic interns under the guidance of Dr. Bharat Gupta, Dr. Priyanka Machale and other faculty members from the Department of Public Health Dentistry. To depict the awareness of ill-effects of tobacco, interns, teaching & non-teaching staff were dressed in t-shirts & carried placards with no tobacco messages. The sound of “You are a fool, if you think smoking is cool” resonated during the rally from Vashi Railway Station till Inorbit Mall.
This was followed by a signature campaign where the support of every individual present towards this cause was pledged.To grab the attention of onlookers, a flash mob was held which contributed towards increased enthusiasm & interest from the crowd.The message of tobacco & its ill-effects was successfully imbibed by a skit performance conducted by a group of interns.
Shaping the minds of country’s future, children of various age groups were gathered & informed about ill-effects of tobacco & importance of oral hygiene which was followed by a drawing competition with the theme of “Healthy Teeth”.
In Conclusion, this year WHO has urged countries to increase taxes levied on tobacco & related products so as to discourage its use. The entire MGM campus is an alcohol & tobacco free zone and propagates the same.
We at MGM Dental College and Hospital will continue our efforts till our dreams of a tobacco free world are accomplished.
Four students i.e. vishal punjabi, Zynia Branco, Khyati Chandra and Kirti Dave were selected to compete in zonal level elimination round by an online process, following this vishal punjabi & zynia branco were selected to compete at the zonal level, and eventually emerged as the 1st runner ups at national level, conducted at NSCA worli.
Honourable DCI president Dr. Mazumdar, accompanied by DCI vice president Dr. Mahesh Verma, visited the MGM dental college on the 14th of July 2013. The hon. DCI president and vice president were given a tour of the college by dean Dr. Sabita Ram and senior faculty members. In view of the spate of various unfortunate events occurring in various parts of the country, the MGM college of dental sciences has instituted a thorough review of our existing security means and measures, so to enhance the security and protection to women staff and students in our campus. In keeping with this, on the occasion of women`s day on the 8th of March 2013, a workshop was organised on the theme of self defense and protection, with a special focus on issues of cyber crime pertaining to women. The workshop was organized in conjunction with the women`s cell of panvel police, who were represented by Sr SI. Rukmini Galande, API Pratibha Shendge, WPSI Chertana Chaudhary, WPN Archana Karkhile, WPC Sharmila, WPC Swapnali, and Taekwondo centre of MGM, who were represented by Mr. Subhash Patil (Instructor) who gave a demonstration of various easy to learn self defense methods in Taekwondo and Judo.
